Abstract The innovations propelling the manufacturing industry towards Industry 4.0 have begun to maneuver into machine tools. Machine tool maintenance primarily concerns feed drives used for workpiece and positioning. Condition monitoring of is intermediate step between smart data acquisition evaluating health through diagnostics prognostics. This review outlines techniques methods that recent research presents drive condition monitoring, are distinguished being sensorless sensor-based, as well signal-, model-, learning-based techniques. Close attention given components (ball screws, linear guideways, rotary axes) most notable parameters monitoring. Commercial solutions described detailed. concluded with a brief summary observed gaps.
